FedEx Announces Several Rate Changes Effective July 14 and August 18th

FedEx has announced a mixed bag of rate changes impacting domestic and international parcels. There are two key dates of implementation:

Beginning July 14, the following changes will go into effect:

  • Unauthorized charge for International Packages: a new fee of $660/pkg will be charged for those that meet the dimensional and weight criteria.
  • Additional Handling Surcharges for zones 5-6 will change: Dimensions increasing from $34 to $36, Weight increasing from $50.50 to $52.75, and Packaging increasing from $30.50 to $31 (these updated charges will align with the UPS Additional Handling charges for zones 5-6).
  • Oversize: Zone 2 is increasing from $205 to $240 (UPS charge is $205), Zones 3-4 are increasing from $225 to $260 (UPS charge is $225), Zones 5-6 are increasing from $240 to $297.50 (UPS charge is $250), and Zones 7+ are increasing from $260 to $305 (UPS charge is $260). Home Delivery Zones 5-6 will increase from $290 to $297.50 (UPS charge is $297.50).
  • Ground Unauthorized: Increasing from $1,325 to $1,775 per package (UPS charge is $1,775 for Over Maximum Limits).
  • Additional Handling Surcharge (International): The weight threshold will decrease from 70 lbs. to 55 lbs.
  • One Rate pricing will change for Express Saver and 2 Day.

Effective August 18, FedEx will use a new pricing structure for parcel pickups occurring in the U.S. and Canada:

  • Regular pickups: will change from $23 or $46/week to $7.50 to $33.50, depending on the number of pickup days, and $12/day for weekend pickups.
  • Automated pickups: will change from $19/week and $16/pkg on Saturdays to $19/week and $7.95 per day on Saturdays.
  • On-call pickups: will change from $3-$5/package on weekdays and $16/package on Saturdays to $9-$22.75 per stop, depending on scheduling type and timing, plus applicable surcharges.
